Care quality under the spotlight

A Sky News investigation has revealed shocking failures due to factors including a lack of funding in care homes across the country, with reports of neglect and severe understaffing. One alarming case involved maggots found in a resident’s wound.

A survey of care providers in England, Scotland, and Wales highlights a worrying trend - 83% reported local council cuts to care packages, while 81% said funding for care hours had been reduced. As a result, carers are spending less time with vulnerable residents, raising serious concerns about the quality of care.

With funding stretched and services under pressure, families are left fearing for their loved ones' wellbeing. As scrutiny on the sector grows, urgent action is needed to ensure dignity and proper care for those who need it most.

Lack of funding will be a key contributor in the issues exposed by Sky. Care homes spend an enormous amount on energy keeping their residents healthy and comfortable. Callum Thompson, CEO of Business Energy Claims said: “At Business Energy Claims we believe that many care homes are unjustly targeted by energy brokers who take more money from the home through a hidden commission on the energy contract. We can support care homes to recover some of this lost money.”
