Financial pressures grow with new care workers plan
Care homes across the country are under immense financial pressures and the Government’s plans to encourage care workers to carry out a greater number of NHS checks will only add to this burden according to energy litigation experts – Energy Solicitors Limited.
Care workers are being trained to take on a wider range of health checks aimed at boosting the health of the elderly and the vulnerable. While this is part of a wider approach to relieve pressure on NHS services, the social care sector is almost at breaking point with fears around being unable to cope with the ever-increasing demand.
With a critical shortage of community nurses and care professionals, Caroline Abrahams of Age UK has warned the system simply cannot cope with rising demand. Nadra Ahmed, head of the National Care Association, questions how staff can gain fresh skills and take on new responsibilities without additional funding.
Despite these, Health Secretary Wes Streeting is pushing ahead, framing the move as essential to his vision for breaking what he calls the ‘cycle of failure’ in social care. He insists this approach will create a lasting national consensus to prevent future neglect of the sector.
But concerns are growing about how Labour’s plans will be funded. Chancellor Rachel Reeves is already grappling with what’s been called a ‘generational fiscal challenge’ raising fears that higher taxes could force care homes, many of which are operating on razor-thin margins, to shut their doors.
The stakes are clear: without immediate financial and workforce support, the social care sector risks collapse, leaving vulnerable people and their carers to bear the brunt of inaction.
Energy Solicitors Limited understands the financial strain care home owners and managers face in 2025. Senior Partner of Energy Solicitors Limited Victoria Myers put it simply: “Every penny matters. Recovering funds from mis-sold energy contracts can make a real difference, freeing up resources to improve care for residents.”
Every penny counts when it comes to maintaining the experience of your residents and it's increasingly tricky to balance budgets as a care home owner or manager.
