Fire safety concerns

Fire safety and effective evacuation planning remain critical concerns in care homes, particularly for residents with mobility impairments or cognitive conditions like dementia, according to Care Home Professional. Despite the devastating consequences of inadequate planning, many care homes still lack the necessary measures to ensure a safe evacuation.

Care Campaign for the Vulnerable (CCFTV) continues to advocate for greater transparency and improved safety standards in care environments, including fire safety. Families and care staff have repeatedly raised concerns about the lack of fire evacuation preparedness, highlighting the urgent need for change.

Proper training, clear evacuation procedures, and the right equipment can mean the difference between life and death in an emergency. CCFTV is calling for stronger regulations and better enforcement to protect vulnerable residents.

ESL’s Victoria Myers said: “Care providers, regulators, and policymakers must act now to ensure every care home has a robust, well-practised fire evacuation plan in place.”
