Why competitive energy contracts equal confident construction
The eyes of the construction world will be on a new ‘Innovation District’ after it emerged a preferred development partner had been chosen to bring a brand new North East project to life.
And as County Durham looks forward to the transformation of the much-discussed Aykley Heads site, Energy Solicitors Limited (ESL) is urging the developers and future tenants alike to pay close attention to the utilities contracts that could be the difference between profit and loss.
Earlier this week Durham Council bosses revealed they were pressing ahead with plans to develop the ‘Innovation District’ — a scheme that involves demolishing County Hall and creating almost 4,000 jobs.
But Victoria Myers, Senior Partner at ESL, urged caution ahead of what could be a bold new era in public sector construction.
“We’re working around the clock to ensure construction companies don’t need to worry about what money they may be losing through a mis-sold energy contract, so that they’re best positioned to rebuild Britain,” she said.
“It’s exciting to see a development like Aykley Heads taking shape but the construction industry has fallen prey to unscrupulous energy brokers in the past and nobody wants to be worrying about an unexpected charge that could affect future cashflow and productivity.”
The council’s vision for the site — and the wider area — is to develop a ‘home for research, green jobs, electronics, digital and creative, fintech, life sciences and satellite applications sectors’.
Plans to develop the site were first discussed more than seven years ago but delays due to the pandemic and a revised budget mean a much-lauded project is only now on the brink of breaking ground.
